The Sangster International Airport (SIA) in Montego Bay, Jamaica, has claimed the title of Caribbean Airport of the Year in the 10th annual Caribbean Travel Awards.
The Caribbean travel website, Caribbean Journal, made the announcement.
The editor-in-chief of Caribbean Journal, Alexander Britell, praised SIA for its impressive achievements and transformation into a top aviation hub in the Caribbean.
The airport recently underwent a makeover, improving the passenger experience with digital upgrades, and an upgraded food and beverage selection that includes the world’s first Bob Marley-branded restaurant.
Caribbean Journal also acknowledged Club MoBay, as one of the leading airport lounges in the Caribbean, and recognized SIA's contribution to the growing airlift networks in the region.
While acknowledging the SIA's achievement, Minister of Tourism for Jamaica, Edmund Bartlett emphasized the importance of providing a smooth and enjoyable experience at the airport.
“As Jamaica’s most highly trafficked airport and the first and last thing a stopover visitor experiences of our island, it is critical that the Montego Bay facility provides a smooth, seamless, and enjoyable ambiance,” said Minister Bartlett.
Earlier this year, Sangster International Airport was also named the Caribbean’s leading airport for the fifteenth year in a row at the World Travel Awards.
The airport beat out 13 other Caribbean competitors for the prestigious award, which it has been winning since 2005.
CEO of MBJ Airports Limited Shane Munroe expressed gratitude for being named the Caribbean’s Leading Airport for the 15th consecutive year and credited the airport team for their dedication and hard work, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining high standards and excellent service.
Munroe highlighted ongoing efforts to make Sangster International Airport more passenger-centric, sustainable, efficient, and safe.
