Jamaica's Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett announced plans to attract 500,000 Canadian tourists to Jamaica by 2025.
Minister Bartlett will lead a team from Jamaica on a five-day 'winter marketing blitz' in Toronto, Canada.
They plan to meet with various travel partners in the Greater Toronto Area to reach the target of increasing the number of Canadian tourists coming to Jamaica.
"Our overarching aim is to welcome 5 million visitors and generate $5 billion in tourism revenue by 2025.
Canada stands as our third-largest market, and presently, we have just surpassed the 300,000 visitor threshold, approaching the levels we witnessed in 2010 when we received up to 400,000 visitors from Canada.
My projections are grounded in data, and I now possess compelling evidence that the Canadian market is poised to propel us to half a million visitors within the next two years," Minister Bartlett said.
Additionally, the tourism minister is scheduled to hold meetings with executives from Canada Jetlines.
At the Jamaica Product Exchange (JAPEX) 2023 trade show, the Director of Sales and Business Development for the airline Sanjay Kopalkar announced that the airline will introduce bi-weekly flights between Toronto and Montego Bay starting in November.
Minister Bartlett's next destination after leaving Canada on Monday, September 25, will be Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he will join other global tourism leaders to celebrate World Tourism Day 2023, observed on Wednesday, September 27.
