Jamaica plans to resume nonstop flights with LATAM Airlines for the summer of 2024.
The announcement was recently made by Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett.
This decision follows Bartlett's recent discussions with top executives from LATAM Airlines in Chile.
In 2019, LATAM Airlines, one of the largest airline corporations in Latin America, operated three weekly flights to Montego Bay.
This service included connections to various cities in Peru, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Bolivia.
The route was managed using Airbus A320 aircraft that has a seating capacity of 174 passengers.
This translated to a total offering of 52,600 seats during the course of its operation.
According to Minister Bartlett, the decision to resume the airlift services with LATAM Airlines is a promising development for Jamaica's efforts to increase visitor numbers from the Latin American region.
As a preliminary measure, LATAM Airlines pledged to investigate alternate avenues to establish connections with other partners.
This includes resuming connecting flights as early as November 2023.
The proposed route would involve a journey from Chile to Atlanta and Montego Bay.
