It’s been almost one year since the Montego Bay Convention Centre opened, in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Dan Hamilton, Toronto-based district manager for meetings and incentive travel, Jamaica Tourist Board, says, “we’ve definitely seen more inquiries from larger groups.”
He points out that prior to the opening, the destination did not have a facility to host large groups with simultaneous functions, but now can accommodate events for 6,000, theatre-style, and for up to 2,000, for banquets. He adds that there are now almost 4,000 rooms within easy access of the centre, perfect for groups led by meeting and incentive travel planners.
Here’s what’s new in the region:
Under new ownership, Breezes Trelawny Resort & Spa reopened on Nov. 1 – following a $40-million renovation – under the new name, Memories White Sands Beach Resort & Spa.
Two Secret Resorts & Spa properties have opened in Montego Bay, with a combined 700 rooms and 16,000 sq. ft. of meeting space.
The all-inclusive Iberostar now has three properties in Rosehall (a suburb of Montego Bay) offering more than 900 rooms, combined, and over 4,000 sq. ft. of meeting space.
The Good Hope Estates, a working plantation, now offers off-site venues and activities for groups.
Club Mobay VIP Airport Services will officially open Dec. 15, at the Montego Bay Airport and will include over 10,000 sq. ft. of meeting space.
